Lowood is an Institution, Jane is told to attend Lowood and leave Gateshead which is run by a man named Mr. Brocklehurst. During an inspection, Jane accidentally breaks her slate, and Mr. Brocklehurst, brands her a liar and shames her before the entire assembly.  But she is comforted a friend she meets in Lowood, called Helen Burns. Lowood is an Institution which has cold rooms, poor meals, and the girls are required to wear thin clothing. Many students attending Lowood fall ill. But Mr. Brocklehurst neglects the students and dishonesty is discovered…
